The free zones are regulated by the law No 8-90 of January 15 1990. The system of free zones the Dominican Republic is one of the most advanced and one of which offers more advantages. Within these advantages one is the currency exchange and the repatriation of the capital. The institutional organism that guards by the correct application of the law is the National Council of Free Zones (CNZFE). Three types of free zones exist, that is to say: Industrial Free zones or of Services, Border Free zones and Special Free Zones.
The regime of customs for the free zones is one of less the most limited, however certain imports exist that are prohibited, equally, there are some restrictions for the sale in the local market. The free zones are administered by the “operators of free zones”, which are in charge to negotiate and to contract with the companies interested in settling in the free zone.
